Cointreau Cocktails

206 recipes. The orange liqueur that most classics actually mean.

Cointreau is a triple sec, which is to say a clear, dry orange liqueur, and at 40% ABV it is considerably stronger and less sweet than the well versions it sits beside. That strength is why it holds its shape in a Margarita or a Sidecar where a cheaper bottle turns to syrup.

It appears in more classic recipes than almost any other modifier, usually as the sweet corner of a sour: Margarita, Sidecar, Cosmopolitan, White Lady and Corpse Reviver No. 2 are all the same shape with the base spirit swapped.

Grand Marnier is not a substitute, it is a choice. It is cognac-based, sweeter and darker, and it makes any of these drinks rounder and heavier.
