Gin Cocktails
731 recipes. Juniper, citrus and botanicals: the most mixable spirit there is.
Gin is the most versatile bottle on a home bar, and the reason is that it was built to be mixed. Juniper gives it a piney backbone, the citrus peel and botanicals around it change with the brand, and none of it needs age to taste finished. That is why more classic cocktails call for gin than for anything else.
Three families cover almost everything. Stirred and bitter: the Martini and the Negroni, spirit-forward, served cold and short. Sours: the Gimlet and the Bee's Knees, gin plus citrus plus something sweet, shaken. And long drinks: the Gin and Tonic and the Tom Collins, where the gin is a tenth of the glass and the rest is length.
If you are buying one bottle, buy a London Dry. It is the style every classic recipe was written for, and a contemporary gin that leads with cucumber or rose will quietly change the drink.
