A Rob Roy is a Manhattan made with Scotch, and it is the drink that answers the question of whether Scotch belongs in cocktails. It does, as long as the bottle is chosen with the drink in mind.

Use a blended Scotch or a gentle Highland malt. Sweet vermouth is herbal and sweet and it can hold a moderate amount of smoke, but a heavily peated Islay will flatten it entirely.

The Blood and Sand is the other one worth knowing: equal parts Scotch, sweet vermouth, cherry liqueur and orange juice, which sounds wrong and is not.
