Orange Scented Hot Chocolate

Velvety bittersweet hot chocolate brightened by fragrant orange peel and a hint of instant espresso, finished with warm nutmeg. It pours deep brown and glossy with a frothy top. A comforting, slightly elevated dessert drink for when you want classic chocolate with citrus and coffee lift.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Milk
  • 4 oz Dark Chocolate
  • 3 pieces Orange Peel
  • 0.5 tsp Instant Espresso
  • 0.125 tsp Ground Nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a heavy medium saucepan, combine milk, chopped bittersweet chocolate, orange peel, instant espresso, and ground nutmeg.
  2. Stir the mixture over low heat until the chocolate is fully melted and incorporated.
  3. Increase the heat and bring the mixture just to a boil, stirring often to prevent burning.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and whisk vigorously until the mixture becomes frothy.
  5. Return the pan to the heat and bring to a boil again, whisking continuously.
  6. Remove from heat once more, continue whisking until frothy, and repeat the heating and whisking process once more.
  7. Discard the orange peel from the mixture.
  8. Pour the hot chocolate into coffee mugs and serve.
