Old Fashioned Hot Buttered Rum

A velvety, warming hot cocktail that tastes like buttery vanilla caramel with a gentle rum backbone and a dusting of nutmeg. Pale tan and frothy, it's a decadent, comforting after-dinner drink that's easy to batch and impressive for cold evenings or parties.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 2 cups Vanilla Ice Cream
  • 1 oz Rum
  • Fill Water

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, brown sugar, and butter in a 2-quart saucepan.
  2. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until butter is fully melted.
  3. Transfer the mixture into a large mixing bowl.
  4. Add vanilla ice-cream to the mixture in the bowl.
  5. Beat at medium speed until the mixture is smooth, scraping the bowl often.
  6. Store the mixture in a refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to a month.
  7. For serving, fill a mug with 1/4 cup of the prepared mixture.
  8. Add 1 ounce of rum and fill with boiling water.
  9. Stir well to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
  10. Sprinkle with nutmeg before serving.
