Kalashnikov Shot

A bold, theatrical shooter: bright, sharp vodka with a pronounced anise-herb backbone from a splash of absinthe, finished by a burst of caramelized lemon and warm cinnamon. Visually striking, a sugar-crowned lemon slice set alight over a brimful shot, it's as much a showpiece as a quick, intense sip. Worth trying for the contrast of bitter herbal notes, citrus brightness, and the warm sweetness from the burned sugar.

Ingredients

  • 0.75 oz Vodka
  • 0.25 oz Absinthe

Instructions

  1. Fill a shot glass almost to the top with vodka.
  2. Position a lemon slice over the glass so that it covers half of the diameter.
  3. Pour absinthe herbal liqueur into the glass, letting it trickle through the lemon slice to fill to the brim.
  4. Lightly sprinkle sugar and cinnamon onto the lemon. You can choose to omit the cinnamon if desired.
  5. Carefully set the sugar-covered lemon slice alight.
  6. Wait for the flame to extinguish by itself.
  7. Once the flame is out, quickly take the shot and eat the lemon slice.
