Black Velvet

A striking two-layered pour that pairs the roasty, chocolate-and-coffee notes of a stout with the crisp, dry effervescence of Champagne. It looks dramatic, a dark base capped by a pale, sparkling layer, and drinks like a richer sparkling beer with a smooth, slightly bitter finish. Worth trying for its visual novelty and the pleasing contrast between velvety malt and bright bubbles.

Ingredients

  • 5 oz Stout
  • 5 oz Champagne

Instructions

  1. Chill both the stout and champagne thoroughly before starting.
  2. Carefully pour the chilled stout into a champagne flute.
  3. Slowly add the chilled champagne over the back of a spoon, allowing it to gently cascade over the stout to prevent mixing.
  4. Serve immediately while maintaining the separation of the layers.
