Dawa

Bright, honeyed and citrus-forward: tart lime and granulated sugar are muddled together, then mellowed by vodka and honey for a smooth, pleasantly sweet-sour balance. Served over crushed ice with a honey-coated 'dawa' stick, it looks rustic and refreshing with a slightly cloudy, pale appearance. It's worth trying for an interactive, low-tech cocktail that's easy to make and adjusts to individual sweetness preferences.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Granulated Sugar
  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 1 whole Lime
  • 1 tbsp Honey

Instructions

  1. In a whisky tumbler, combine the sugar and lime.
  2. Gently crush the lime to release its juice while mixing with the sugar.
  3. Add the crushed ice and pour the vodka over it.
  4. Coat a dawa stick with honey and immerse it into your drink, letting it sit in the mixture.
  5. Use the dawa stick to stir and muddle the lime further, mixing the honey into the drink to achieve a desirable sweetness.
  6. Serve immediately, allowing guests to adjust additional honey if desired.
