Brown Betty Punch

A warm, spiced punch that blends malty pale ale with sweet brandy and brown sugar, rounded by cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and a touch of ginger. It pours a deep amber and is studded with lemon slices and whole spices, offering a cozy, gently sweet-and-spicy sip. Ideal for serving a crowd, it’s comforting on cool evenings and easy to batch for parties.

Ingredients

  • 48 oz Bass® Pale Ale
  • 12 oz Brandy
  • 18 cups Water
  • 0.25 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 0.5 tsp Grated Nutmeg
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 4 Whole Cloves
  • 0.5 cup Brown Sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine the sugar, lemon slices, cloves, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, ginger, and water in a large nonreactive saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Stir frequently to ensure the sugar fully dissolves.
  3. Once the mixture reaches a boil, reduce the heat to medium and allow it to simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Add the brandy and pale ale to the mixture and heat gently, ensuring it does not come to a boil.
  5. Serve the punch in beer mugs, garnishing each with a slice of lemon.
