Silky and sweet with concentrated ripe-plum flavor and a warm brandy backbone, this homemade plum liqueur has a clear to amber-rose hue and a smooth, lingering finish. It tastes intensely of fresh plums with caramelized sugar notes and a boozy warmth from the vodka/brandy base. Worth making for its versatility—sip neat as a digestif or use it to brighten cocktails and desserts.

Thoroughly wash and dry the plums. Cut them in half, removing the pits.
Place the plum halves into an aging container. Add the granulated sugar over the plums and gently stir to cover.
Pour the vodka and brandy into the container and stir well to begin dissolving the sugar.
Secure the lid on the container and store it in a cool, dark place for about two months. Stir the mixture occasionally.
After two months, strain the mixture into a large bowl using a strainer. Press any remaining liquid from the plums with a wooden spoon.
Discard the plum pulp. Strain the liqueur again through a cloth to remove any impurities until clear.
Transfer the liqueur into bottles of your choice. It's ready for immediate consumption or use in cooking, but it will taste best if allowed to age for one more month.
